About Us
Christ's Films is a student-run cinema, founded in the 1978 to provide an alternative to the expensive local cinemas.
We are open to members of Cambridge University only, showing a film every Thursday and Sunday of full term in New Court Theatre, Christ's College. On Thursday evenings, we show "classic" films that we feel deserve to be seen on the big screen. On Sunday evenings, we show new and re-released films. In Lent Term '99, we bought a 35mm film projector to greatly increase both sound and picture quality, and in 2008 upgraded the sound system to cinema grade Dolby Digital. We are one of only two Cambridge film societies to use 35mm film, the same format commercial cinemas use, rather than 16mm or DVD. We are also one of only two film societies able to show films in scope format [very wide screen], and the only society to have full Dolby Digital (and analogue) decoding.
Finding Us
Films are shown in New Court Theatre, Christ's College.
To get to the NCT (assuming you're entering through the Great Gate), walk through First Court, through the archway in the far right-hand corner, then follow the path through second Court to the left. Once in Third Court, keep to the right, then turn right at the big steps leading up New Court. Go through the glass doors, and to the end of the corridor. In theory, this map shows the route.
Disclaimer
Films are open only to members of the University of Cambridge, and valid ID proving such status may be required (in other words, a CUSU card or University card may be requested as ID). Guests may be admitted with permission, and entry to films is at the society's discretion. Refunds are given only if technical problems seriously impair enjoyment of the film.
